King’s Day is the day when Dutch communities across the globe dress in orange to celebrate the king’s birthday. In Southern California, the celebration is alive and well thanks to the Dutch School, which partners with the local Dutch community to host vibrant events in San Diego, Long Beach, North Hollywood, and Orange County.
Come celebrate King’s Day with the Dutch School—and discover our Dutch lessons for kids, available both on campus and online!

What Is King’s Day?
King’s Day originated in 1885 as Princess’s Day and later became Queen’s Day. Since 2014, it’s been celebrated on April 27 to honor the birthday of King Willem-Alexander.
Fun fact: Some tourists still arrive in Amsterdam on April 30 expecting Queen’s Day—earning the nickname “mistaken tourist.”
