MEETING EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS

At the Dutch School, we are committed to delivering nothing short of excellence in education. Accredited by the Dutch Ministry of Education and affiliated with the Foundation for Dutch Education Abroad (Stichting NOB), the Dutch School provides high-quality Dutch education.

We hold the standards high by staying on par with the Dutch educational system and offering standardized testing, such as CITO and Dia.

The Dutch School is an official testing location for the CNaVT exam, which is recognized as a vital step towards the Dutch naturalization process or admission to studies in the Dutch language.

The Dutch School is affiliated with Stichting Nederlands Onderwijs Buitenland (Foundation for Dutch Education Abroad) (“NOB”), as are nearly 200 schools worldwide. Commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, NOB supports affiliated schools with the professionalization of teachers, providing a worldwide network of colleagues, purchasing of products and licenses, by providing materials created by NOB and much more.

The Dutch School is supervised by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, by a vision called the Dutch Education Inspectorate, and on behalf of the Flemish Education Inspectorate as well. The Education Inspectorate conducts an inspection every 4 years. Most recently the Education Inspectorate visited our three school campuses in California in March 2019 and issued an inspection report that you can read below. The next visit is scheduled for 2024/2025.

In addition to method-based testing, we also offer annual tests offered by the Dutch Central Institute for Test Development (CITO) for primary education. Tests such as AVI, reading comprehension, spelling and vocabulary. The CITO tests give us a good idea of how students are developing by following their own individual growth and adjusting education where necessary based on results. Importantly, AVI helps determine the student’s reading level.

On top of method-based testing, we also offer annual tests offered by Diatoetsen. Dia offers standardized tests such as reading comprehension, spelling and vocabulary in a digital setting. Students are able to take these tests from anywhere in the world due to its digital format.  The Dia tests provide a good insight in to the student’s individual learning curve and highlights areas of improvement. This can guide our teachers to provide the best education possible.

The Dutch Language Union treaty develops and promotes policy for Dutch in the Netherlands, Belgium and Suriname, and supports Dutch language development all around the world. The Dutch Language Union is reponsible for the CNaVT exam. This exam is a vital step in the Dutch naturalization process (B1 level exam) and also necessary for those who want to study in the Dutch language in the Netherlands, Belgium or elsewhere in the world.
